Kenton Thatcher — Sessions
The project translates 33 years of work by master photographer Kenton Thatcher into a living visual autobiography — spanning an exhibition, a published book, and a citywide billboard campaign, delivered within 11 weeks. We led the creative direction, editorial design, and spatial storytelling across all formats, translating Kenton's restrained black-and-white language and 830 photographic fragments into one continuous narrative rather than separate outputs.
The book carried that language into print: a 196-page large-format publication built on minimal layouts, precise typography, and disciplined negative space, letting the archive unfold as a sequence of pauses rather than a fixed narrative.
What does it take to distill three decades of a master photographer—capturing the icons of Portugal’s cultural landscape—into a living, breathing visual autobiography?
The exhibition responded directly to the architecture of the SNBA gallery — a single expansive volume defined by elliptical walls and vertical scale. We preserved that openness while structuring the space through a central spine and three intimate, blue-toned rooms that framed slower, more focused encounters.
Together, the book and the exhibition form one continuous act of storytelling — a collective portrait of Portugal's cultural landscape, experienced at two different speeds.
